USTA Georgia announced that Bainbridge has been selected to host the USTA Southern Combo State Tournament October 26-28.
“This is exciting news for Bainbridge businesses. Over 350 players and family members will eat in our restaurants, shop our stores, lodge in our hotels and some teams have even rented houses for the 3 day tournament,” said Tournament Coordinator Babs Coyle.
If you enjoy watching competitive tennis, there will be plenty to see.
Bill Reynolds Tennis Center will be tournament headquarters and Floyd Tennis Complex, BHS and the Potter Street courts will also be used for matches.
Matches start as early as 8 a.m.
Two age groups will compete, 18 year olds and over as well as 40 year olds and over.
When Bainbridge last hosted this tournament, local businesses reported a spike in sales and foot traffic, and were very welcoming to tournament participants. Teams and players from all over the state gave Bainbridge and the local tennis volunteers high praise for their hospitality and organization of such a well run tournament.
“Without local participation from volunteers and support from the City of Bainbridge and Decatur County, as well as local businesses, this tournament would not be possible” said Coyle. “We look forward to a great weekend of tennis.”
