The weather is getting just right for River Town Days

Springtime is trying to make its presence known in Bainbridge, but cold waves keep holding it back. Fortunately, the weather seems to be warming up just in time for River Town Days.
I’ve driven past the Earle May Boat Basin a few times the past couple of days and eyed the assembly of the rides and vendors that will be entertaining folks all weekend. The lineup for Saturday looks like it will be a blast with plenty of live music, games, rides, food and drink to satisfy every type of River Town Days goer.
If you’ve noticed an uptick in traffic down Shotwell Street or an unusual number of trucks pulling bass fishing boats, that’s because the FLW Tour is holding a tournament on Lake Seminole this weekend. It started Thursday and will wrap of Sunday afternoon. If you find yourself needing a break from the music and entertainment, head on over to the boat ramps around 4 p.m. to see some huge bass get weighed in by some of the best anglers in the world.
Of course, the whole day leads up to the headline show of the event, country music star Colt Ford. Though he’s not my cup of tea, per se, I look forward to seeing an excited crowd jamming out at the Performing Arts Building Saturday night.
While there is no longer a Flames on the Flint BBQ Cook Off to coincide with River Town Days, there is still plenty to see and do.
I’m especially looking forward to trying out the “Beer Garden” and seeing how the cornhole tournament shapes up. If you’re not afraid of heights, there is also going to be a hot air balloon for guests to ride, weather permitting.
River Town Days works as an official springboard of sorts for this gorgeous season in our neck of the woods (pun very intended). When the boat basin is humming with music and chatter of hundreds (hopefully thousands this weekend) of visitors, you know the weather is only going to get better from then on out.
Let’s just hope the rainclouds stay away and we can have a fun, safe weekend together.
I’ll see you there!
