The Bainbridge High School soccer team lost in disappointing fashion to Veterans High School 3-0 on Tuesday, April 2nd in Warner Robins.
The Bearcats were competitive throughout much of the match as they defended well against a possession-minded War Hawk side.
In the 16th minute, however, the War Hawks broke through for the first score of the match on a beautifully placed shot over the outstretched arms of Bearcat keeper Arkeavious Marshall. Although disappointed after having been able to absorb so much pressure and thwart opportunities up to that point, the Bearcats continued to play with determination in an effort to keep any additional damage from being done prior to half-time.
The Bearcats also continued to work to create goal-scoring opportunities when they were able to take possession of the ball from the War Hawks. The Bearcats were able to hold off the War Hawk attacks on goal throughout the remainder of the first half, and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.
The Bearcats opened the second half with confidence. The team continued to defend as a unit against the War Hawk attack and to create some opportunities to get back into the match.
In fact, the best opportunity came when Angel Munoz took a ball played in behind the War Hawk defense to get a one on one opportunity with the War Hawk keeper. However, the keeper was up to the challenge and was able to make the save.
From there, Veterans gained all momentum and tacked on a couple more goals for good measure in the 61st and 74th minutes to go on to a 3-0 win over the Bearcats.
The Veterans team is a sound team. They have talented players, and they are able to possess the ball well as they build up for attacks on goal. With that said, we have a talented team as well. We were not completely outclassed in this match. The first goal was of great quality. From there, we continued to fight to equalize, and we had our chances to do so despite having the disadvantage in regards to possession time and shots on goal. Unfortunately, when we had our golden opportunity to equalize, we failed to do so. That really took the wind out of our sails and gave all momentum to Veterans. It is disappointing for sure, but all we can do is to continue to learn from our errors and work to get better prior to our next match.
