Hello! I am Casey Clemons, an upcoming Junior at Bainbridge High School and also your new Bainbridge High FFA Reporter. Each month, I will write and keep the community up to date as to what is going on within the BHS FFA Chapter. And to add my own little ‘flair’ to this, I will leave you with an FFA fact. Enjoy!
Serving on the 2019-2020 BHS FFA officer team is: Sara Mathews as President, Cayden Harrell as Vice President, Faith Taunton as Secretary, Madalyn Yancey as Treasurer, Kathryn Cohen as Sentinel, Ashton Aldridge as Chaplain, Bryson Faircloth as Parliamentarian, and Brent Miller as Historian.
We held our annual FFA banquet on April 22 at the Cloud Livestock Facility where we had over 280 guests and members in attendance. We served a smoked pork chop meal sponsored by the Bainbridge FFA chapter and gave awards to some of our outstanding members. Kathryn Cohen and Brent Miller were awarded Star Greenhand due to their hard work and commitment towards their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects. Cole Buchanan was awarded the Star Chapter Farmer because of how much work, effort, and time he gave to his SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience.) We also honored our very own Mr. Martin Bius. After working as a agriculture education and young farmer teacher at Bainbridge High School for over 30 years, he is retiring this year and we are all sad to see him leave but wish him nothing but good fortune in the future.
On April 31, the State FFA Convention held in Macon, Georgia. Here, counties from all over the state are recognized for competing at a state level competition. Kathryn Cohen competed in the State FFA Creed Speaking contest and placed 2nd overall. Taryn Powell of Bainbridge Middle School placed 4th overall. Also Bainbridge FFA was highlighted as a 100% membership chapter. Logan Grubbs and Faith Taunton received their State FFA Degrees. The BHS FFA Parliamentary Procedure team also competed in the State Parliamentary Procedure CDE and was 5th overall. We are so proud of all of these members.
Over the summer our chapter Secretary, Faith Taunton, will be attending Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. This is week long opportunity to build leadership skills, network with other FFA members from across the state and country and participate in community service activities. WLC is the pinnacle leadership conference offered by FFA to any and all members that are able to attend. We look forward to hearing from her when she gets back! We know she will represent BHS FFA well.
I leave you with this FFA Fun Fact: Did you know that out of all 50 states in the U.S., the top five states with the most FFA members are Texas, California, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Missouri?
