Paul Luther Dixon, Jr. was born March 23, 1935 in Orlando, Fla., the son of Paul L. Dixon, Sr. and Alta Cooper Dixon. He was a graduate of Edgewater High School in Orlando. An airboat industry pioneer, Paul began building airboats in 1962. He moved to Southwest Georgia in 1980 and opened Dixon’s Airboats Unlimited and became an air boating legend. He was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church.
Known for the work in his boat shop, Paul was a master at his trade. He loved a challenge that ignited his ingenuity. As a person who did not accept “no” as an answer, Paul sometimes had to build/create/devise his own tools. He had a strong sense of community, which led to a business with no customers, only friends. Paul has been described as honest, loyal, a man of integrity and genuine. He saw things as black & white with no gray area and never spared an answer to a question even if you wanted a “gray area” response. He enjoyed boating, hunting and cutting the rug. Paul’s dry sense of humor coupled with his gift for storytelling kept his friends and family in stitches. He lived his motto, “Can’t never did.”
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carol Dixon; his children, Pamela Jones of Howey In The Hills, Fla., Randal Paul Dixon and his wife, Debra of Oviedo, Fla. and Timothy McCullough and his wife, Michele, of Longwood, Fla.; his brother, David James Dixon and his wife, Carolyn, of College Park, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Melissa, Tanner, Hannah and Reese. Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
