Mr. Raymond Lee Monk, age 60, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at his home in Cairo, Georgia. Services for Lee were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020, at New Jerusalem Church, Cairo, Georgia. Rev. Teddy Williamson and Rev. Keith Pearson officiated Jay Floyd, Tim Monk, Eddie Thomas, Scott Monk, James Monk, and Aaron Loudermilk served as pallbearers. Mr. Monk was interred in the Pine Level Annex Cemetery. The family received friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending were requested to wear protective masks and practice social distancing.
Mr. Monk was born on February 2, 1960 in Camilla, Georgia to the late James Ethaniel Monk and Josephine Joiner Monk. He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Dianne Monk and his grandchildren Courtney, Cody, McKinsey, and Paige, and great-grandchildren Brandon Lee Sadler and Cecilia Jane Sadler. Also surviving are his brothers Mark Monk of Thomasville, Rayford Monk of Florida, Tim Monk, Scott Monk, and Donnie Monk all of Cairo.
Mr. Monk was a very hard worker who enjoyed the outdoors as well as hunting and fishing. Spending time with his family was very important to him. Lee was a loving husband and a wonderful “Papa Lee” to his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending church and fellowshipping with his church family. Lee always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help anyone in any way. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Monk was preceded in death by his son, Joseph (Joey) Linnell Thursby, his daughter Cecilia (CC) Nicole Brooks Johnson, and his brother, E. J. Monk.
