Tip leads officers to marijuana grow

On Thursday, August 27, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office investigators began surveillance of a house after receiving information that Carlton Kellett was trafficking large amounts of marijuana in Decatur County.
Investigators Adam Mobley and Justin Kelly first conducted surveillance on one of Kellett’s residences located on Newton Road. As Kellett was leaving the residence, Mobley conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, he, Kelly and Investigator Vincent Edmond conducted a search of the vehicle, where they found a quanity of marijuana inside his vehicle. Kellett was then taken into custody.
During the traffic stop, Investigator Terry Phillips and Crime Scene Technician Tommy Johnson began securing the scene on Newton Road.
After receiving a search warrant for the residence, investigators discovered approximately five pounds of marijuana, packaging equipment, firearms and a marijuana grow inside.
Kellett’s father, Paxton Kellett and his girlfriend, Caroline Kelly were arrested on scene.
Investigators went on to team up with a Florida agency, where they located approximately 30 pounds of marijuana and $62,000 in cash, which were all related to Kellett.
Days later, Kellett’s girlfriend, Samantha Lush and his mother, Tracey Kellett were also arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime.
“This case was definitely a team effort and we want it to be made clear that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Decatur County,” Mobley said.
Kellett was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Kellett’s father, Paxton was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Kelly was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and conspiracy to commit a crime.
