Decatur County 4-H Judging Team participates in competition

The Decatur County 4-H Forestry Judging Team recently participated in the Southwest District Forestry Field Day on September 8, 2020. The contest was held at Chehaw Park in Albany, Georgia. Junior team members Autumn Wiggins, Owen Fleming and Scott Ross Hayes received 1st place honors. Autumn Wiggins also received the 2nd place Junior High Individual ranking with Scott Ross Hayes making 3rd place Junior High Individual. Senior teams members for the area contest were Omarion Smart, Kinsey Ward and Rachel Hayes. The Senior team received 2nd place honors. Additionally, Kinsey Ward received the 2nd place Senior High Individual award and Rachel Hayes was 4th place Senior High Individual. Team member Corbin Austin was unable to attend the contest.
Forestry Judging is a rigorous contest with components including: Tree identification, Insect/Disease identification, Saw timber estimation and Compass/Pacing estimation. The team members studied and practiced diligently as they reinforced the 4-H Motto, “Making the Best Better.”
