Goodwill Industries of the Big Bend (Goodwill) has recently announced that they will continue their partnership with Envision Credit Union (Envision) for a second year to provide school districts in Jackson, Gadsden, Leon, Thomas and Decatur counties with vouchers for students to purchase back to school clothing, backpacks and supplies. The partnership aims to support families with school aged children, particularly at a time when COVID-19 may be significantly affecting their household resources. The vouchers will provide students with the opportunity to visit a Goodwill store in their area and purchase items that will help them generate a positive sense of self and succeed in the classroom.“We are excited to offer these vouchers again as a resource for students and families while they prepare to go the back to school during these difficult times,” said Fred Shelfer, CEO/President of Goodwill Big Bend. “Our team recognizes that when students feel good about themselves, they are more likely to do better in the classroom. We hope these vouchers will provide families with a cost-effective alternative for purchasing clothes, shoes and other back to school essentials.”
The vouchers will be distributed in $20 increments and are requested to be used in a “pay it forward” manner, inviting families to either use their voucher or pass it along to another student. They are valid until November 2, 2020, and can be redeemed in any Goodwill store within the five district counties.“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Goodwill Big Bend again for this school year,” said Kelli Walter, VP of Community Development at Envision Credit Union. “Envision’s core values are built upon supporting the education community and it’s important for us to encourage programs that directly impact the lives of students. We hope that these vouchers will allow students to choose items that back them feel good during this back to school season.”
