Tuesday afternoon saw the Grace Christian Academy gym fill with spectators as the varsity Cougars faced off against the North Florida Christian Eagles. The girls easily won the first set 25-13.
The second set briefly paused, as one of the Eagles sustained a leg injury, before resuming, with the Cougars winning 25-22. But ultimately, the girls lost the overall match 3-2.
Mary Glenn Warr scored 1 kill, Mallorie Jordan scored 8, Lainey McRae scored 10, Isabella Barnett scored 3, Ella Harrell scored 2 and Katherine Griffin scored 5.
Warr served 6 aces, Jordan served 2, Josie McConnell served 1, McRae served 3, and both Kassidy Widner and Savannah McConnell served 4. Warr carried the team with assists, totaling 22.
“The girls came out of the gate focused and ready to take care of business,” said coach Deanna Canfield. “We let up the gas and just couldn’t come back and finish the game. I have a young team, the maturity on finishing a game in 3 will come with experience. I have no doubt. This team is a great one. We will get in the gym, work on a few things and be ready for our next match.”
