The tradition to honor and remember friends, loved ones through the Archbold Foundation Tree of Lights continues in spite of the event being cancelled in Archbold’s continued effort to keep our communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every donation helps fund the critical services and programs Hospice of Southwest Georgia offers to patients and families in our communities.

“I think especially during this current time, the COVID-19 pandemic, there are so many families that are dealing with hardships so it’s especially important to give during this holiday season,” said Darcy Craven, Archbold Medical Center President and CEO.

“Each of the lights on the tree represents a donation in honor or in memory of an individual. The Foundation will send a special holiday card to the families of those folks they have honored or memorialized,” said Vann Middleton, Archbold Foundation President. A donation of $10 per individual honored is suggested, but gifts of any size are welcome.

For the fourth year in a row the presenting sponsor of Tree of Lights is TC Federal Bank. “We are grateful for the support from our good friends at TC Federal,” said Middleton. “They are great corporate stewards who give back to so many in our community.”

“Giving back to the community is the core of what we have here at TC Federal Bank. In our mission statement we talk about having a servant’s heart and hospice is truly a ministry that has a servant’s heart in our community.  We strive to serve others, our friends, our neighbors, our employees when they are at their greatest time of need,” said TC Federal Bank CEO, Greg Eiford.

This year the Tree of Lights was lit in memory of Cathy Mooney. Cathy Mooney passed away in March 2020 after an 18 year battle with multiple myeloma. Cathy spent the last few months of her life under the care and comfort of Hospice of Southwest Georgia.

“I had 18 years to prepare for this, from 2002; you would’ve thought we would’ve been well prepared when the time came,” said Cathy’s husband, Richard Mooney. “You cannot imagine the care, the comfort, the help and the professional aid Hospice brings during those difficult times. I’m not saying we couldn’t have survived but it would’ve been extremely more difficult to have gone through this process without the Hospice program you have at Archbold.”

“They are just a wonderful family that has always supported hospice so it was very appropriate this year that the Mooney family be honored in memory of Cathy,” added Middleton.
