Darryl Enoch Mathis, age 84, of Iron City, Ga. passed away Thursday morning, January 14, 2021 at his residence.

Graveside services for Mr. Mathis were held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Memorial Gardens with Rev. George Masciarelli and Rev. David Williams officiating.  Interment immediately followed the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Mathis’ name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to Iron City Methodist Church PO Box 62 Iron City, Ga. 39859.

Mr. Mathis was born in Donalsonville, Ga. on August 31, 1936 to Raymond and Ossie Morris Mathis.  He worked in agriculture as a fertilizer plant manager for ConAgra, formerly UAP-Ga Ag Chem.  Mr. Mathis devoted his time to taking care of his wife and enjoyed being with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Keith Mathis and his wife Karen of Panama City, Fla., Ray Mathis and his wife Kim of Calera, Ala., Laura Lovering and her husband Michael and Robyn Herring and her husband Richard both of Iron City, Ga.; his brother, Howell “Buddy” Mathis of Iron City, Ga.; his grandchildren, Jason Mathis, Elizabeth Mathis, Callie Willis and her husband Zach, Rachel Mathis, Jacob Herring, Austin Herring; and a great grandchild, Jackson Willis. His sister-in-law, Sara Brackin of Iron City, Ga. and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ossie Morris Mathis; his wife, Emma Jean Akins Mathis; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Rabon; and his sister-in-law, Pat Mathis.
