James Ross Peterson was born December 13, 1931 in Kinsey, Ala., the son of James and Willa Mae Peterson. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He married Betty Lou Yates and they made their home in Bainbridge. Ross retired as a maintenance supervisor with Englehard and worked several more years at Barber Fertilizer. He was a faithful and active member of Morningside Baptist Church and his Sunday School class.
Ross loved everything about family. His kind and gentle ways were a sure sign of how much he cared for those he held dear. He had a knack for making you feel right at home and treated his friends like kinfolk. Ross enjoyed fishing, playing golf, kicking back at Mexico Beach and of course anything to do with the grands and great-grands.
Survivors include his children, Gwen & Earl Godwin and Linda & Kenneth Dodson, all of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, Brandi & Caleb Adkins, Laci & Danny Moore, Kevin & Rhonda Dodson, Brian & Teresa Dodson, and Colby Dodson; and his great-grandchildren, Ashton Ross Torres, Quinn Moore, Bowen Dodson, Ray Dodson, and Reese Dodson. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, James Peterson and Edgar & Willa Mae Mills; his wife, Betty; his son, Kenny Peterson; and his brother, Jim Mills.
