James Grant Maddox, age 75, of Calhoun and formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday April 22 in Advent Gordon Hospital.
Grant was born November 30, 1945 in Bainbridge, Georgia, son of the late Henry Johnson Maddox, Jr., and Rosemary Grant Maddox. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School class of 1963, and a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he was the church treasurer. Prior to his retirement he was employed by AT&T for 30 years and after retirement he and his wife Harriet videoed weddings and special events. Grant was a scout master in Camilla and Fitzgerald for many years. He was a well-rounded outdoorsman and craftsman who loved to troubleshoot and work in his shop, but his life was his grandchildren who he loved to teach.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Holder Maddox, three sons, James Grant “Jim” Maddox Jr., Keith Maddox and Clay Maddox and his wife Anna, two sisters, Jane Blake and her husband Bryant and Marjorie Adams and her husband Paul, brother-in-law, Metz Holder and his wife Mary Grace. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Henry Maddox, Dylan Maddox, and Nolan Maddox, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Grants’ life will be conducted Monday, April 26, at 1PM from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home, with Rev. Alan Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon, until the funeral hour. You may send condolences to the family at www.thomasfuneralhomecalhoun.com
