Robert L. Z. Bridges, 86, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Melissa Traver and Rev. Stephen L. Webb officiating. A private interment will follow at Brinson Cemetery. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing of six feet and/or wear protective masks in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines.

Robert was born February 2, 1935 in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of Leon Burson Bridges and Irene Sawyer Bridges. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1951, attended Mercer University, and was the retired owner of Port City Liquors. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Dewberry-Forrester Sunday School Class. He loved snow skiing, Georgia Bulldog football, family gatherings, visiting with friends, and history. Robert always had a laugh and a smile for everyone and loved being with the Wednesday night men’s supper club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty White Bridges of Bainbridge, Ga.; his daughters, Cindy Bridges Powell (Hardy) and Carol Bridges, of Brinson, Ga.; his sister, Hattie Bridges of Augusta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Peyton, Brian, and Chase; and his great-grandson, Bridges. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy Bridges.
