The Firehouse Gallery introduced a new special event on Saturday, May 15. Called Sketchbook Pin-up, it featured artwork from 40-50 local artists of all ages, much of it listed for sale.
There was a reception for students from 3 to 5 p.m. and an evening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. for adults.
Leigh Parsons, firehouse director, said the attendance from the public was very good and everyone seemed to have a good time.
She especially liked the live music performed by Anna Wescoat, a local musician who plays the keyboard, guitar and harmonica in a broad genre of music from country to soft rock.
The receptions featured a popcorn machine and Southern Philosophy donated beer for the occasion.
An additional benefit was that guests had an opportunity to purchase many of the artists’ works, each one of which was priced under $20.
Parsons said it was a successful venture and one well worth repeating.
