Bearcats beat Patriots, go 3-0 in region

Friday night the Bearcats took on the Westover Patriots at home in a region faceoff, where the Bearcats dominated in all three phases of the game, ultimately winning 40-8.
The Patriots’ started the game with a strong defense, allowing only one touchdown in the first quarter.
With 6:33 left in the quarter, Javon Cox caught a 21-yard pass from Quarterback Bo Smith, following a drive of 70 yards over 11 plays.
Blake Fagan then made the kick, giving the Bearcats a 7-0 lead.
Senior Deyon “Smoke” Bouie was on fire in the second quarter.
Following a drive of 32 yards over four plays, Bouie caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Smith with 10:15 left in the half.
Nick Tyre attempted the extra point, but it came up just wide of the goal post.
Shortly after his first touchdown of the night, Bouie followed it up with another as the clock was winding down.
With 3:02 left in the half, Bouie caught a 13-yard pass for his second touchdown of the night.
Fagan made the extra point, giving the Bearcats a 20-0 lead.
The Patriots finally found their way to the end zone with 1:40 left in the half.
Alex Ingram caught a 65-yard pass from Braylon Cook.
Following the touchdown, the Patriots opted for the two-point conversion.
Ingram successfully caught the pass from Cook, and the Patriots then trailed 8-20.
Just when fans thought it was over for the second quarter, Smith made a nine-yard run with 1:10 left.
Tyre’s kick was then blocked, but the Bearcats were still up 26-8.
Coming out of halftime, the Bearcats’ defense and offense completely dominated.
Zye Chrispen caught a 13-yard pass from Smith and scored with 7:30 left in the third quarter.
Fagan then made the extra point.
Keenan Phillips closed out the night with one final touchdown in the third quarter.
He made a 42-yard run for a touchdown with 4:23 left in the quarter.
Tyre then made the extra point, giving the Bearcats a final 40-8 score.
Individual highlights included Phillips having 11 carries for 69 yards and Cox having 7 carries for 24 yards.
Smith completed 16 passes for 252 yards. Bouie had 4 receptions for 91 yards. AJ Grant also had 4 receptions for 47 yards.
Chrispen and Antavious Murphy both had three receptions.
Head Coach Jeff Littleton was proud of the win and the effort put in by the players and coaches.
“It was a great win for the Bearcats,” he said. “We played hard and stayed focused throughout the game.”
Littleton did admit they had one mishap on defense, but otherwise the team executed on both sides of the ball.
“The kids are doing a great job every week and making sure they are getting better each and every day.”
The win makes the Bearcats 3-0 in the region, giving them the number one ranking in Region 1-AAAA.
They are now set to play Thomas County Central (2-1) at home on Friday night for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m.
