As we are on the cusp of changing the number of our year from 2021 to 2022, I am reminded of verses from the Old Testament prophet Isaiah. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

There is, also, a similar concept in the New Testament Book of the Revelation. At a future date which will happen, but no one knows when, “He who is seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:5)

Of course, in both of the Biblical references, it is God at work. In an infinitesimally less way, we all are standing at the end of one year and looking forward to the beginning of a new year. I hope it will be as our familiar phrase hopes “A Happy New Year.” What would make it so?

This is one of those “different strokes for different folks” sort of things. What would make the new year a happy one for me might be different from your Happy New Year. Here are a few things that would make the new year a good one for me.

Obviously, to continue to have good health would make it a good year. It is during the holidays that we see some struggle with health issues, while others have it differently. It’s not a matter of those with good health being better people; far from it. We should thank God for good health and pray for those who might not have it. It’s that simple.

Speaking of healthy and happy years, it would be a good year if we could find some unified way of dealing with the ups and downs of these coronavirus variances. The information that goes out from “the powers that be” leaves us all wondering what to do. Should we do this or that? What really would make us safe? Why are we so skeptical or is it cynicism?

A happy new year would be one in which there would be a restoration of confidence that all the people who claim to want to help us would actually do that!

Here is a sure way for a Happy New Year. It begins on New Year’s Eve with a Bulldog victory over Michigan and continues in 2022 with a whooping of Alabama and a final exorcism of that Crimson Tide curse.

This new year, for me, would be happy if gasoline prices remained below $3.00 and prices at all kinds of stores simply stopped going up. I don’t eat all that much beef, but I would like that to be my choice instead of my pocketbook’s necessity!

A happy new year would be where the yields of our agricultural crops are high and the prices for them would be even higher. Agriculture is one of the most successful businesses in America and I would love to see farmers have a great year. All of us would benefit.

I would love for everyone who wants a job to be able to find one and I would wish that more people would want to work. A hard working nation is a good nation.

A happy new year would be a year where our children go, in person, to schools that are dedicated to teaching them the goodness of this great nation. They need to hear that message.

A happy new year would be a year where crime is down and hope is up. A happy year might be a year where we return to the “United” States of America instead of the “Divided” people that others would like us to be.

Pray for a Happy New Year. We need it and praying for it is a good place to start.
