The weekend of Feb. 25-27, three members of the Bainbridge High School Anchor Club, Mackenzie Antis, Paige Overman, and Brennen Timmons, attended the state Anchor Convention at Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, Ga. Almost 100 Anchors from throughout the state were at the convention. The service project for the state convention was the collection of pull tabs and grab-and-go breakfast items to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The BHS Club donated two plastic bins of breakfast items and almost two gallons of pull tabs. Outgoing BHS Anchor President and Southwest Georgia Region Chairperson Paige Overman was awarded one of three Georgia Pilot Foundation scholarships during Saturday night’s banquet. At this banquet, Brennen Timmons was installed as the Georgia Anchor Secretary, and Mackenzie Antis was installed as the new Southwest Georgia Region Chairperson. Brennen and Mckenzie, along with the rest of the state executive board, will soon begin planning next year’s convention. Anchor President Overman said, “It was great to see the hard work of the executive board come together for a weekend full of fun activities and new friends. I am excited that we have two officers for next year’s state board, and I can’t wait to see what they will contribute for next year’s convention.”
Other activities the BHS Anchor Club have been involved in recently are mentoring students at Jones Wheat Primary (along with 10 JROTC cadets), working concessions at the home soccer games, helping Pilot Club prepare for their convention, and volunteering at the West Bainbridge Elementary school’s book fair.
