The Kirbo Center auditorium was occupied last week, as the BMS bands and the BHS Symphonic and Concert Bands performed in the GBA Band Festivals.
According to James Sewell, high school band director, “The Georgia Bandmasters Association Concert Band Festival is a musical evaluation process for middle and high school bands and their directors. The evaluation by knowledgeable and experienced adjudicators follows an extended period of instruction in school settings.” He continued, saying, “The opinions and suggestions from these considered authorities in the field of music are given in written and oral form. Their comments are invaluable to the continued success and improvement of the performance groups and the programs they represent.”
The BHS bands both received Superior Ratings, the highest possible ratings, for the 37th year in a row.
Sewell talked about the student’s preparation, saying, “We began preparing for the evaluations in January. However, students have been building on their abilities from one year to the next so in essence, it started with beginning band.”
“We are so very proud of our students and their dedication to tradition and learning to improve and be the best they can be,” he praised. “Every year they all never cease to amaze!”
He further praised his student’s efforts and performance: “We all know what our students have been through over the last two years. To see them persevere and continue to excel is an amazing testament to their willingness to let nothing stand in their way of striving for the highest!”
