Shawanda Anderson of Climax is under arrest, after she struck a man lying in the roadway and drove away from the scene.
According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Brian Palmer, Arlie Burris, Jr. was lying in the roadway for unknown reasons, when a concerned driver pulled over next to Burris and called in to GSP and report him.
Reportedly, Anderson drove around the parked vehicle, running over Burris in the midst. Anderson then drove away, not stopping to see about Burris.
The bystander was able to catch Anderson’s plate number, before turning her into GSP for her actions.
GSP took out warrants on Anderson and found her to be intoxicated, following the incident.
Palmer said at this time it is undetermined if Anderson was under the influence of anything beyond alcohol, as they are awaiting toxicology reports.
Anderson was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under the influence, improper passing and leaving the scene of an accident.
No bonds were reported at the time of the incident.
GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is helping with the investigation, as they are thoroughly trained by investigators in fatal accidents. They also use the accidents investigated to gather statistics in order to save lives by avoiding future collisions.
