Betty Joyce Gaston was born December 12, 1939, in Columbus, Ga., the daughter of Jett & Mamie Lee Carpenter Gaston. After high school, she earned credit from Columbus College. In 1958, she married the love of her life & best friend, Bobbie Lee Monfort. They made their home in Columbus for 40+ years then moved to the big city of Climax in 2001. Betty worked as a paraprofessional for both Muscogee County Board of Education and Grady County Board of Education. She was a member of Climax United Methodist Church.
Betty was a loving mother and grandmother. She considered “her kids” to be any child…those at home, those at church, those at school, and any others she may encounter. She loved them unconditionally and made their needs priority. Betty enjoyed watching things grow and develop into their full potential. Flowers and animals captured her attention and piqued her curiosity. Her favorites were birds, especially swans, hummingbirds, blue birds, and bobwhite quail. Betty loved the life she built with her best friend and cherished the memories they made together.
Survivors include her husband of almost 64 years, Bobbie Lee Monfort; her children, Mary Christine Dionne (Roy) of Columbus, Ga., and Pamela Monfort Dodd (William) of Merritt Island, Fla.; her grandchildren, Randy & Brittany, Jeremy & Sabrina, and Zachary & Lynda; her great-grandchildren, Justin, Haley, Chloe, Brenden, Wyatt, Emmett, and Lyla; her granddog, Annabelle; and her grandcats, Boat Kitty and Spooky. Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
