Hazel Virginia Jones Vickers, age 92, passed away at her home in Donalsonville, Georgia, Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Services for Mrs. Vickers will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, 202 S. West Street, Bainbridge, Georgia. The Rev. Marty Brock will officiate. Interment will follow in Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Antioch Church Road, Climax, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00.
Hazel Vickers was born October 27, 1930, in Climax, Georgia, to Benjamin O. Jones and Edna Mae Hinton Jones. In her early years she worked as a professional seamstress. February 3, 1967, she married Eugene D. Vickers. Hazel retired from Guadalupe Valley Hospital after 18 years of service as the health unit coordinator. Hazel loved people and they loved her. She was kind and compassionate, always wanting to help. Gardening was her passion. She loved to work in her flowers. A kind, compassionate person, loved by many (especially her sister), adored by her husband, Hazel will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Eugene Delford Vickers of Donalsonville, Georgia, sister Carolyn J. Pope of Bainbridge, Georgia, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin O. Jones and Edna Mae Hinton Jones; son James Eugene Gwaltney; brothers, Charles W. Jones and Lowell S. Jones and sisters, Ella Ree Forrester and Myrtice Inlow.
