Betty Sue Shirley Musgrove, 88, of Bainbridge, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Attapulgus Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. A private interment will be held at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with Charles Harrell, Bobby Harrell, Chas Harrell, Paul Merkison, Woody Kirkland, and Billy Merkison serving as active pallbearers.
The family will only receive friends immediately following the service. The Musgrove Family is especially grateful for your love and prayers during this time and appreciates you honoring their wish for no home visitation as Betty Sue’s first great-grandchild acclimates to the world. Betty Sue Shirley Musgrove was born on January 29, 1935, in Bainbridge, Georgia to Claude W. Shirley, Sr. and Minnie Peacock Ash Shirley. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1951. Betty Sue was a dedicated and tireless worker who worked well into her 80’s. She began her secretarial career at Miller Hydro Company when she was fifteen years old, later continuing her career at Flint River Electric and, lastly, at the Georgia Department of Labor. Betty Sue married Donald Musgrove in 1960 and produced her greatest love, her only child, Robin Musgrove Vickers. She has one grandchild, Meghan Heckman, who led to her being affectionately known by many as “Nan-Nan.”
Betty Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother and, just one week ago, became a great-grandmother. She loved gardening, bird watching, sewing, the Antiques Roadshow, and spending time with her many siblings. She was well-known for her delicious pound cakes and her overall top-notch cooking. In addition to her parents, Betty Sue was preceded in death by her only child, Robin Musgrove Vickers, and her siblings, Birdye S. Dennis, Beck S. Cliett, William C. Shirley, Martha S. Royal, and Marlene S. Vickers. She is survived by her only grandchild, Meghan, and her husband, Jimmy; her great-grandchild, Robin; her siblings, Lucile Shirley, Claude Shirley, Peggy Merkison, Sadie Kirkland, and Glenn Thomas “Duck” Shirley and his wife, Beth; and many family by choice.
