Juanita Ann Durham was born July 24, 1934, in Blakely, Ga., the daughter of John Pryor Durham and Juanita Allen Durham. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1951. Ann attended Valdosta State College in 1952 working towards a degree in business. She married Glenn C. Gunsallus on January 10, 1953, at the Bainbridge First United Methodist Church. They lived in many places all over the southeastern United States, sometimes moving every three years. Ann made it her mission to create a beautiful, loving home with impeccable décor no matter the location. Twenty-five years ago, Glenn & Ann retired to Bainbridge from Albany and continued a legacy of faithful service at Bainbridge First United Methodist Church. Ann had a deep and abiding faith serving her Lord as a quiet disciple. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother by all who knew her.
Needlework and crochet were favorite pastimes. Ann lovingly made hundreds of receiving blankets given to hospital newborns. Church circles, cooking for Holy Week luncheons, sponsoring special musicians, and providing the organ for Reynolds Chapel were just a few ways Ann served her church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, and entertaining. Ann made it a point for her children and grandchildren to share her love of the beach creating memories of a lifetime during these vacations.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Davis and her husband, Jerry, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Grace & Stephen Mercer, Rose & Thomas Garner, Tyler & Katy Beth Davis, and Megan & Lindsey Gunsallus; her great-grandchildren, Ansleigh Grace, Davis & Adalynn Mercer; Campbell, Emily, Lewis, & Andrew Garner; and Rigg Davis; and her sisters, Jane Anthony (Jack) of Alexander City, Ala., and Ellen McKenzie, of Dadeville, Ala. Ann was looking forward to welcoming her 9th great-grandchild, Baby Garner, expected to arrive in November. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Glenn C. Gunsallus, and her son, John David Gunsallus.
