Jimmie Gerald Martin was born September 13, 1938, in Decatur County, Ga., the son of Charlie & Myrtle Edmonds Martin. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. Jimmie married Patricia “Pat” White and spent 62 years enjoying life with her. He retired as terminal manager for Gulf Oil and was an elder at Southwest Baptist Church.
Anything fast caught Jimmie’s attention. He would race cars, go-carts, boats, and whatever else you thought was faster than his. Life revolved around family, and many memories were made camping, fishing, and enjoying the mountains. Jimmie was thoughtful in everything, from how he dealt with people to how he kept his cars. He was meticulous and attended to every detail. His yard didn’t have a blade of grass out of place. His vehicles looked (and probably smelled) new. His tools and lawn mower were in pristine condition after years of use. His people were loved and cared for with every ounce of his being.
Survivors include his daughters, Bobbie Martin Barfield (Troy) of Bainbridge and Pam Martin Wells (Steven) of Bowman, Ga.; his grandchildren, Amee & Jeff, Richard, Casey & Kendra, Brock, and Bailey & Dillon; his great-grandchildren, Reese, Britney, Mason, Skyler, Liam, Dawson, Zane, Beckham, and Briggs; his great-great-granddaughter, Adalyn; and his siblings, Charline Perry and Jan Howard (Richard) all of North Carolina, and Wayne Martin (Carolyn) of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Pat White Martin.
