While festival-goers listened to the musical artists of River South on Saturday, just a block away, artists of a different sort put their work on display for all to see. The Firehouse Art Gallery hosted its first annual Chalk Walk over the weekend. Contestants were each assigned a square of sidewalk to use as their canvas, each one making their own unique design with sidewalk chalk. Local neighbors judged each entry based on technicality, originality and craftsmanship.
There were two age categories for contestants; Olivia Sapp was the winner of the 12 and Under category, as well as the People’s Choice winner, while Ansley Cook won the 13 and Up category.
“This event was part of our Community Art Month, Artier, where we encourage everyone to create, play and celebrate what the arts bring to the community,” Firehouse Executive Director Jessica Polsky said. “Everyone was so creative and had fun on this beautiful fall day.”
