Lady Cats’ senior pitcher Brenna Conley got a chance to play in her Bainbridge uniform one more time— this time in an MLB stadium.
Conley and Lady Cats’ head coach Rex Wade traveled to Atlanta for the Dugout Cub All-Star Game. Eighty of the best softball players in Georgia were invited to play in the All-Star game at the Atlanta Braves’ stadium.
“Probably about two or three weeks before that game, Coach Wade called me into his office and let me know that I was elected to play,” Conley said. “I felt honored… I was kind of shocked.”
Wade also got a selection for the All-Star game. Four teams were created from the 80 players based on region, and each team had a handful of coaches from the region.
Each team got to play two games, and Conley was able to pitch four innings, have multiple at-bats, and get some time in the outfield.
“Her first at-bat, she got a hit,” Wade said. “I was on third coaching. It was a pretty cool experience to the last hit of her high school career.”
Conley said the weekend was bittersweet and that she was glad Wade was there to coach the game.
“It was sad,” Conley said. “But at the same time, it was great to have him coach me one more time. It was a great experience with him being there beside me.”
The event was held at Truist Park— the home of the Atlanta Braves. The 40,000+ capacity stadium opened in 2017.
“First off, I felt very little, I felt like a little ant on that field,” Conley said. “Other than that, it was pretty good… I really enjoyed being able to play one last time in my Lady Cat uniform. It was also good to go against some of the best players in the state of Georgia.”
