Michael Killingsworth was born August 16, 1959, in Thomaston, Georgia, to Lyde Warren Killingsworth, Sr. and Avis Lavelle Gassett Killingsworth. He graduated from Adrian High School, Class of 1977, Adrian, Georgia. Mr. Killingsworth worked at Propex, Inc. and then worked for Decatur Fish Farm. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, a member of the board, former Sunday School teacher, and song leader for almost 18 years.
Mike married Katherine Ann “Kathy” Merkison in October 1981. He and Kathy raised two sons. Mike had 2 grandchildren whom he adored.
In 2015, Mike was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and initially was only given 6 months to live. Later, that life span was increased to 2 ½. Thanks to the Lord and the wonderful care of Dr. Josh Simmons, Mike lived another 8 years. In those eight years Mike never gave up, never lost his faith, and never quit fighting. Also, during those 8 years, Mike lost the love of his life, Kathy, but he didn’t let that stop him. Mike loved the Lord, loved his family, and loved his church family.
Mike is survived by his children, Alan Michael Killingsworth (Mandy) of Leesburg and Matthew Bryce Killingsworth (Bethanie) of Bainbridge; his mother, Lavelle Killingsworth of Meansville, Georgia; brother, Lyde Warren Killingsworth, Jr. (Beth) of Barnesville, Georgia; sister, Karen Evans of Rentz, Georgia; grandchildren, Finley and Piper; mother-in-law, Peggy Merkison of Bainbridge; brothers-in-law, Billy Merkison of Bainbridge, Paul Merkison (Donna) of Cedar Springs, Georgia, and Jimbo Merkison (Missy) of Bainbridge; and sister-in-law, Page Merkison of Tallahassee.
