Michael Andrew Bowen was born November 18, 1955, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Grady and Jennie Lovering Bowen. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1974. Michael managed several grocery stores over the years and retired as manager of Piggly Wiggly in Brunswick. Following his retirement, he decided to work a few more years at Old Times Country Buffet. He was Baptist by faith.
Michael enjoyed life and made the most of it. He was known (for unknown reasons) to his high school friends as “Porter” so one can surmise a good story has been filed in the archives with a pact among friends to never share some information. The beach was a place of solitude and reflection for Michael. Georgia football and Donald Trump were often topics of lively conversation and debate.
Survivors include his daughters, Ashley Sheffield (Kyle) of Colquitt and Michelle Popham (John Allen) of Sylvester; his grandchildren, Jae, Alex, and Harper; his siblings, Vicky Detling (Chuck) of Gulf Shores, AL, Joan King (Roy) of Albany, LaJean Bowen of Bainbridge, Patrick Chipman (Brenda) of Indianapolis, IN, and Belinda Green (Tony) also of Bainbridge; and his aunt, Libby Gardner (Jimmy) of Bainbridge. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Virginia Bowen.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
