Attendees to last week’s Friday at the Firehouse social event were treated to a poetry read-along and book signing, delivered by none other than the author herself. Caroline Harper New was born and raised in Bainbridge, before moving away to Michigan, though she returns to Bainbridge to visit her family a few times every year.
New stated she has always been interested in writing, having started in 5th grade. “I used to do more non-fiction writing,” she said. “I switched to poetry in the past six or seven years.”
Her book, a collection of poems titled “A History of Half Birds” is her first poetry collection. She is currently working on another collection to publish.
“I’m really grateful that I still have all this support from the community,” she said. “It really means a lot to me.”
