Saturday saw downtown Bainbridge packed as crowds gathered for the 4th Annual Bainbridge Jazz & Blues Festival. The yearly event is put on by both Southern Philosophy and The American, and sees multiple musical acts perform at various locations around downtown. This year featured acts from groups like the Jerry Thigpen Trio, Dirty Bird & The Flu, and the Corey Hall Trio, just to name a few.
The event was free admission to the public, with VIP tickets for the sponsor tent also being sold. Drinks and food were also provided to the tent by The American and Southern Philosophy. While both The American and Southern Philosophy were responsible for organizing the event and it’s musical acts, Southern Philosophy’s Gallagher Dempsey gave credit to the Firehouse Arts Center for their help, as well as to Bainbridge Public Safety for their help with street closures and Downtown Bainbridge for trash disposal.
Dempsey stated that this year’s turnout was bigger than last year’s; while last year saw a slightly larger burst in attendance, this year was consistently larger. As for the musical acts, while some performers had participated in previous years, Dempsey said there were very few that performed last year repeating this year, in an effort to keep things interesting.
“We’re really happy with the way the event went,” he said, going on to thank the community sponsors. “We’re glad to bring something that brings culture to the community, and helps the economy as well. We’re glad to bring something different.”
