Four Ladycat basketball players were awarded region honors for the 2023-2024 season.
Junior center Kyra Green and junior guard Z’riah Solomon were selected for the Region 1-4A second team. Junior guard Taliyah Ausgood and sophomore guard DaNydia Campbell were region honorable mentions.
“They really do deserve it,” said Ladycats’ head coach Danny Evans. “Those four are amazing girls, they love the game of basketball, and they just want to get better.”
Green led the Ladycats in points, rebounds and blocks per game this season. She was also the team’s most efficient scorer, shooting at a 49% clip on 147 attempted field goals.
“She has a great skill set,” Evans said. “Her athletic ability is off the chart.”
Solomon was the Ladycats clutch factor in 2023. She hit some “timely” threes in the Ladycats region tournament win over Westover, according to Evans, and scored a game-winning layup against Shaw in the final seconds of their regular season meeting.
“She had some huge games for us,” Evans said. “I like when she has fun… when she has fun in the game, she can’t be guarded.”
Ausgood and Campbell were the Ladycats one-two punch at point guard. The pair shot above 40% from the field, Campbell was third on the team in points per game (6.4), and Ausgood led the team in assists per game (2.2).
“[Ausgood] is a wonderful ball handler. She doesn’t let her size hinder her, she can get open for a shot, she can create her own shot, and she can finish at the rim,” Evans said. “[Campbell] brought toughness, mental toughness as well. She’s one of those ones that doesn’t like to lose.”
All four players have the ability to return to the Ladycats in the 2024-2025 season.
