It has been two years since the Bainbridge Kiwanis Club was dissolved due to complications from the COVID pandemic. Now, old members of the previous club are looking to resurrect it, gathering at The Oak House on the afternoon of April 25 to do just that.

The meeting was led by the previous governor of the Georgia Kiwanis District, George Elkins. While at the meeting, the club leadership was chosen, which consists of New club President Ashley Kinchen, joined by Secretary Amy Eakin and new Directors Dr. Crycynthia Gardner and Al Kale. The club’s additional positions will be elected at future meetings.

The meeting time and place were also set that afternoon, at J3 BBQ on the first and third Thursday of the month.

“The Georgia District of Kiwanis New Club Opening Team met with many people in Bainbridge over four days,” Elkins said. “We were privileged to also have the President of Kiwanis International, Katrina Baranko, from Albany, Georgia, in our club opening team. The folks we met were receptive and interested in our process and provided great support.”

He continued, “Many people have had wonderful experiences with the previous Kiwanis Club. And now, the new club will also look for areas of service to children and families in Bainbridge and has incorporated Decatur County to expand its mission… What a great challenge for the new club in 2024! It will be our pleasure to serve together with this new club.”

The club’s first official meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, May 16.
