Summer camp is a place where kids can learn new skills, make new friends, and generally just enjoy themselves. Southwind Plantation has been offering its own camp for two years now, for boys age 11-15. Campers arrive on Sunday evening and stay until Friday. During the week, campers will learn and participate in multiple outdoor activities; this includes basic Hunter’s Safety instruction, kayaking, fishing, skeet shooting, dog training, and even a mock quail hunt.
To say the camp has been well received would be an understatement. According to Southwind’s Summer Rivenburg, the attendance this year was over double last year.
“We went from having about 15 last year to 40 this year,” she said, adding that there are happy campers coming back. “I would say all 15 that came last year are repeaters.”
Rivenburg added that, while some campers are Bainbridge locals, some are from bigger cities, both in state and out, giving them a unique experience.
“This is a whole new world for them, so just the parents knowing that their kids are gonna be outside, outdoors with our guides all week is a plus for them.”
“At SWP Summer Camp, a true outdoorsman is made, and memories will never fade,” Rivenburg concluded.
