UPDATE: Decatur County Schools and Spring Creek Charter Academy will be closed tomorrow, as will all extracurricular activities.
Both the state of Florida and Georgia have entered a declared state of emergency as Tropical Storm Debby is expected to make landfall Monday morning, with the potential to strengthen into a hurricane as it progresses up the Gulf of Mexico. High storm surges in coastal areas of Florida and southeast Georgia are predicted. Tornado watches have also been issued in several Florida counties.
Despite the state of emergency, no local school cancellations have been issued as of this time. The Post-Searchlight will provide updates on this as they are made available.
