It was a busy two days for Grace Christian Academy XC, splitting between volleyball, football and crosscountry for some of our runners, playing multiple sports.
On Friday evening, Walker Elrod raced in the elite field of runners from various states at the Cecil XC Invitational in Jacksonville. Walker placed 19th out of 294 runners with a 16:05. He joined the rest of the team Saturday morning for more running at Dueling Summit Invitational in Tallhassee, Florida.
Tatiana led the Lady Cougars with an 11th place finish and senior Kate Sigman produced a course personal record, to get things going. The Cougars used this meet as another pre-season team build, while developing racing strategies on the boy’s side. Freshman Caellum Bush and Henry Lee return as the previous year top state middle school runners, placing in the top half of the race. Margaret Chastain and Perry Glenn led the middle school girls and boys teams with a 7th and 8th place, respectively. Both 8th graders racing well, on a relatively tough trail. Grace Christian Academy’s Middle School girl’s team placed 6th of 12 teams and the boy’s team 8th of 14 teams.
“I enjoyed seeing all our runners challenge themselves. I look forward to seeing how all four of our teams progress the rest of the season. It’s been fun so far and I love seeing the growth!” -Coach Smith
