The Bearcat cross country team continues to fire on all cylinders with strong performances elicited by athletes at the Lee County Invitational in Leesburg, GA this past Saturday. Junior Gambler Dollar led the boy’s team to a 10th place overall finish with a personal record time of 19:10, 23rd overall, closely followed by teammate Angel Bonilla-Ortiz, with a personal record time of 19:19, 27th overall. Others scorers for the Bearcats include: Le’Tuan Howard, running a personal record of 20:26, 51st; Nathan Jackson, 21:06, 60th; and Detric Burden, 21:48, 75th. The team competed against all teams in the region, minus Cairo, and finished second, just two points behind Peach County. Though still early in the season, this proves an excellent indication that the team shows competitive potential for the championship in early November.
The High School girl’s team also showed great improvement, with all top five finishers running under 26:33, over a minute faster than previously ran times this season. Teagan Barefoot was the Lady Cat’s top finisher again this week, with a time of 25:18 and 17th place, closely followed by teammates Enajiya Marcus, 25:41- 21st and Angalina Gomez, 25:48 – 24th. The other top finishers included Elana Sheffield and Emerson Huggins, running 26:28 and 26:32, finishing 38th and 39th, respectively. The Lady Cats finished 6th overall.
