Susie Mae Smith McCroan, age 98, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, surrounded by family at her home in Bainbridge, Georgia.   Services for Mrs. McCroan will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, at West Bainbridge Baptist Church.  Rev. Lynn Massey and Rev. Chad Cooper will officiate.  Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.  Jesse Griffin, Alex Burney, Roger Smith, Henry Cutts, Ricky Cutts, and Joshua Smith will serve as pallbearers.  The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 10:00 am.

Susie Mae Smith was born June 13, 1926, in Miller County, Georgia, to Andrew Reliford Smith and Rosa Lee Corley Smith.  The family moved to Decatur County, Georgia and that is where Susie and her siblings grew up.  Susie grew up to be smart and very, very organized.  She married her sweetheart, Marvin McCroan, who preceded her in death.  Susie worked and retired from Suburban Propane.  She worked there over fifty years.  Aunt Susie, and later SueSue, was a mother to none but a mother to all.  She dearly loved her siblings, nieces, and nephews.  A very adventurous person, she enjoyed traveling with her family or was quick to hop on a plane all by herself.  Susie loved family gatherings and reunions.  A member of West Bainbridge Baptist Church, she was a devoted and Godly woman.  She never seemed to let things upset her and took the good and the bad with a peace that passes all understanding.  An avid gardener and lover of flowers, she, at age 98, still mowed her yard with a push mower and refused to give up the job to any of those that wanted to help.   Susie McCroan will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

Susie Mae Smith McCroan is survived by her brother, C.M. (Bud) Smith of Bainbridge; nieces, Vicky Summerhill, Terrie Burney (Troup), and  Mary Lee Smith; nephews, Roger Smith (Tana), Henry Cutts (Patti), Ricky Cutts (Denise), and Jerry Cutts (Diane); and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, sister Wynelle Cutts, brother Robert Smith, and nephews, Bill and Jesse Cutts.
