On December 17 at 7:00pm, Bainbridge High School (BHS) Band Department will host a magical event of holiday music at the BHS Gymnasium. They will also partner with JROTC.
Attendees are asked and encouraged to donate new unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots as the toys will be given to local children around town.
The BHS concert has a lot in store for the holiday season. BHS Color guard will be sponsored by Michelle Johnston. The Color guard team will perform their routine that’s choreographed by seniors Estrella Diaz, Mariah Green, Kennedy Jones, Malia Stubb, Carlee Parrish, and Keri Ann Tate. James Sewell, Direct of Bands at BHS, exclaimed. “The girls have been working very hard to get ready for the concert and the Christmas Parade.”
The BHS Danceline is also excited to perform. Joann Moore is the Dance line Sponsor and Bailey Brock is the Assistant Sponsor. This year’s routine was choreographed and taught by Juniors Aubree Gainous, Julia Raye Key, Carlee Mathews, Ashley Mosely, and Careygan Palmer.
There will be two performances by the BHS Concert Band and Symphonic Band. The Concert Band will be under the direction of BHS Band Teacher, Will Parker. The band will perform “Dashing Through the Snow” featuring Addie Temples. A freshman band student will sing “Show Yourself” from the Disney movie Frozen 2, and “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” featuring 7-year-old Ellie Parker and Dr. Boyd English, Superintendent of Decatur County Schools. The concert will close with Mariah Carey’s classic song “All I want for Christmas is You!”
The Symphonic Band will perform “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, “Oh Holy Night”, and “An American Christmas”. The concert will close with a sing along from the audience as the band play four familiar Christmas Classics.
Additionally, there will be a small ensemble performing at the Yuletide Jubilee on December 5th. On December 18-19, Sewell and Parker will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Some students will also volunteer by playing a few Christmas carols in a group.
Director of Bands, James Sewell stated, “We hope that everyone that is able will make it out to one or both of these wonderful events. We would like to thank our community, the Board of Education, DCS administration, DCS Faculty and Staff, our boosters, our sponsors, and especially our parents for their continued and consistent support for our students and our program.” He continued. “I’d also like to send a special thank you to all our students and all of our band staff and volunteers. Definitely none of this would be possible without their tremendous efforts.”
