Linda Merle Helms was born August 30, 1948, in Colquitt, GA, the daughter of K.T. & Erie Jackson Helms. She was a graduate of Miller County High School and Jinks School of Nursing. Linda retired from Memorial Hospital with 55 years of service. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Linda was “at large & in charge” everywhere she went. Hospital staff would testify she ran a tight ship. Her work family and church family often experienced her “take charge” care knowing full well everything was handled.

In her younger days, Linda spent many hours riding horses. She continued to enjoy the outdoors, fishing, playing church league softball, and chasing the dogs in her spare time. Linda considered her conversion experience an opportunity worth sharing with everyone, and she never tired of telling how Jesus changed her life.

Survivors include brothers, Joe Helms (Pat) of Donalsonville and Danny Helms (Linda) of Colquitt; her step-children, Vickie & James Tidd, Nickie & Marcia Dukes, and James & Connie Dukes; and a host of nieces, nephews & extended family. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Dukes, and her siblings, Maudine Helms, Bonnie Helms Mills, Betty Helms Hawthorne, Ricky Helms, and Kenneth Helms.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
