On December 18th, Bainbridge High School Anchor Club members donated over 150 gifts to the children at the Friendship House. The event is one of the club’s most prominent and favorite projects of the year. Beginning in November, the club members select the age and gender of the students for whom they’d like to purchase a gift. They also reach out to faculty and community members to see if they’d like to donate, as the club has only 50 members and there are close to 150 students at the Friendship House. Club members want to ensure every student has an extra gift to open on Christmas morning. Once the gifts are collected, club members sort and wrap them to be delivered. When the members deliver the gifts, they join in the festivities at the Friendship House, and the joy in the room is palpable. Club sponsor Heidi Chambers said, “It’s harder to determine who is more excited, the Anchors or the students receiving the gifts.”
The Friendship House of Jesus is a non-profit organization providing a comprehensive after-school program, offering academic, physical, biblical, and arts education to children aged 5-17 at no charge. Classes are gender-separated, staffed by part-time and full-time directors to ensure tailored support for boys and girls.
