Griffin had the lone run batted in for the Bearcats on the night, and sophomore Jake Barber scored in the bottom of the third inning to tie the ball game at one. Lee County surged ahead with a stellar performance in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four impressive runs to secure a comfortable lead and seal their victory.

“We’re trying to establish a culture and standard, having tryouts and team practices late,” Head Coach of BHS baseball Cody Kremer said. “We haven’t really had that much time together as a team, so we are a little behind in certain areas. But I’m seeing  improvements daily in practice, the kids are bought in and they want to work.”

The Bearcats have a slew of road games starting with a visit to Thomas County Central where Kremer and his crew will play a double-header this Saturday against Vidalia and the aforementioned Yellow Jackets. The first pitch will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 4:00 p.m. start time. Following a trip to Valdosta next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., the Bearcats will take part in the Valdosta Tournament next Saturday with the opponent and start times to be determined.

“I do like us going away on a weekend, playing multiple games,” Kremer said. “Giving our guys a lot of innings against tough opponents. But ultimately just getting out of town and getting in that routine of traveling away having to stay in hotels. Right now, we’re just focused on taking it one day at a time.”
