Robert Kenneth Stephens was born April 6, 1936, in Donalsonville, GA, the son of Grover & Clyde King Stephens. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. Robert married the love of his life, Sylvia Bass, in 1956, and they made their home in Decatur County. Following his retirement, with 33 years of service, from the State of Georgia Department of Entomology, Robert decided his second career would be residential construction. He earned his contractor’s license at the young age of 68. Robert was a faithful member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church.

A gentleman in all respects, Robert was quick to connect with people he met from all walks of life. Rarely did you catch him without a smile on his face and a joke ready to share. He spent his days farming and “constructing”; he could build most anything and made many repairs with just a little hay wire & duct tape. Robert looked forward to the day he could confirm there are John Deere tractors, good lumber, and new nails in Heaven.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Sylvia Stephens; his children, Sandy Stephens Day and Danny Stephens (Alma); his grandchildren, Rusty & Molly, Kyle, and Rebecca; his great-grandchildren, Haylie, Rylan, Preston, Caylee, Zoey, Maddy, M.Z., Luka, and J.T.; his brother, Pete Stephens (Joan); his daughter-in-law, Benita Harrell; and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Carpenter, Cleveland Stephens, Nelson Stephens, David Stephens, and Charles Stephens.

The Stephens Family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Georgia Hospice Care.
