Charles Clemons

Funeral services for Charlie Clemons, 71, of Colquitt, Ga., were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating.

Interment followed at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville, Ga., with Josh Clemons, Zackary Clemons, Earnest Ray King, James Taylor, Louis Taylor and Mike Sanders acting as pallbearers.

Mr. Clemons was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Jacksonville, Fla., and died Jan. 30, 2011, in the Miller County Hospital.

He was a member of Kimbrel Chapel Church of God in Colquitt. He served in the U.S. Navy/Merchant Marine and also worked in the police departments in Colquitt, Bainbridge and Mayport, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Minnie Gardner Clemons; his wife, Martha Jane Braswell Clemons; and two sisters, Dorothy Taylor and Lois Cook.

He is survived by a son, Charles Clemons Jr. of Colquitt; a daughter, Rebecca Clemons Mott of Colquitt; five brothers, Leon Clemons of Albany, Ga., Larry Clemons of Brinson, Ga., Adams Clemons and Billy Clemons, both of Bainbridge, and Jimmy Gardner of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Mary B. Camp of Gainesville, Ga., Diane Bramlett of Bainbridge, and Jane Harrison of Whigham, Ga., and seven grandchildren.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
