Employees of the City of Bainbridge’s Public Safety and Public Services Divisions teamed up Monday and Tuesday to safely install a valve on a natural gas main off Dothan Road. The 6-inch gas main is located in front of Gate No. 2 at Elberta Crate and Box Company. The valve is used to turn off the flow of natural gas in the event of an emergency; the valve replaces an older one that was located in the Elberta Crate parking lot, said Gas Department Employee Wayne Bennett. To get to the gas line, workers had to isolate a section of line so that gas was not actively flowing through it and dig about five feet underground.
