Bearcats drop doubleheader

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats dropped a road doubleheader to the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets on Friday, falling in Game 1 by a 7-3 score, and losing Game 2 by the score of 5-0.
It was the second and third meetings of the season between the two Region 1-AAAA South Sub-Region rivals. The Bearcats defeated the Yellow Jackets 7-4 Tuesday, March 13, at Bearcat Field.
Central 7, Bainbridge 3
Bainbridge took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of Friday’s first game. Centerfielder Jake Goodson walked with one away and moved up to second on a single by catcher Cole Granato.
Goodson and Granato both came around to score on a double by designated hitter Blake Voyles.
The Yellow Jackets bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Key at-bats in the inning were a sacrifice fly to center by second baseman Eric Johnson and a two run double by first baseman Kyle Riley.
The Bearcats pulled even, 3-3, with a run in the top of the second. Second baseman Brandon Bates walked, moved to second when shortstop Ben Day laid down a sacrifice bunt, stole third and came in to score on a sacrifice fly.
The Yellow Jackets went ahead to stay 6-3, with three runs in the bottom of the third. Key blows were a leadoff single by second baseman Eric Johnson and an RBI double by Riley.
The Yellow Jackets scored their final first-game run in the bottom of the fourth. It was scored by centerfielder Adam Choice, who singled, stole second and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Johnson.
Central 5, Bainbridge 0
Riley hurled a one-hitter in the nightcap. The Bearcats threatened in the top of the first. Goodson doubled with one away and was stranded.
The Yellow Jackets scored one in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fifth. A big blow in the decisive fifth was a three-run home run by Johnson.
