Three men in the community are interested in starting a local photography club, and they are inviting anyone in the area with an interest in photography to join them at an organizational meeting Monday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilbert H. Gragg Library.
Jerry Pollock, Elden Eckard and Ansley Johnson have met three times and researched how other clubs function. Now, they are ready to determine the interest level within this community.
“Anyone interested in photography, regardless of their camera type or experience, is welcome,” Pollock said.
He further explained the purpose would be a learning and teaching club, where persons with expertise could come in and help others, and members could also learn from each other. Pollock stressed that it will not be a competitive club.
The group will be called the Southwest Georgia Photography Club, and will meet monthly to get together and have a good time learning from each other. Members also may take some field trips to do photo shoots.
Pollock said he has had an interest in photography since the 1970s, and now that he is retired he has time to devote to it. He has taken some courses through the Continuing Education Division at Bainbridge College, as has Eckard, while Johnson teaches photography at BC.
Any persons who might be interested in joining, but are unable to attend the organizational meeting on May 14, are invited to contact Ansley Johnson at (229) 220-4788 or by email: ansleyjohnsonphotography@yahoo.com.
