Twenty-two golfers, ranging in age from 6 to 16, learned the game from a pair of local professionals during last week’s golf academy clinic at Bainbridge Country Club.
The clinic was held from Monday through Friday. One of the instructors was Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Champion Christa Teno, a former Bainbridge Country Club golf professional, member of the Windsor/Essex County Canada Sports Hall of Fame and women’s golf coach at Seminole State College in Deland, Fla. Also helping with the instruction was Professional Golf Association member and Bainbridge Country Club professional Jimmy Stevens.
Thad Pettyjohn, one of the academy clinic organizers, said the professionals received the academy clinic’s goal of GOLF, which stands for “Grins On Little Faces.”
“The goal of our academy clinic is to get kids to enjoy playing golf together at a very young age,” Pettyjohn said. “If they do that, they will enjoy the game throughout life. They were taught the basic golf skills of putting, chipping and swinging.”
Academy attendees included Jackson Vaughn, Jackson McCullough, Jackson Conley, Chase Dean, Chase Parker, Carter Hathcoat, Brent Miller and Lexton Thompson. Also attending were Conner Poitevint, Tyler Sumner, Dax Willis, Karli Willis, Pate Beckham and Will Beckham.
Rounding out the academy attendees were Reese Conley, Simpson Bowles, Miles Greene, Gabriel Bethaey, Ashton Darley, Reagan Bogen, George Runyon and Will Barber.
