Center director Hazel Betts greeted parents and students with best wishes for a good year to come. Sitting under the welcome bulletin board with the message, “We all may be fish of different kinds, but in this school we all swim together,” was teacher Lakeisha Murphy as she signed all parents in.

Gloria Walden, a family service worker, gave a tour of the school, while different teachers and assistants registered students.

Each hall was newly painted in bright colors and named, the green hall, yellow hall and blue hall. Many classrooms were ready and waiting for the students.

In the green hall, in the classroom for younger 3-year-olds, teacher Belinda Coney and teaching assistant Amber Addison showed students Jahkia Rambo, Jalisha Cooper and Sabrion Adams what fun things they have planned for them.

In the blue hall, there was a bulletin board with the words,“When you dream big the sky is the limit.” Betts also greeted a group of students, parents and teachers in front of this message, as she encouraged all to reach for the sky.

In the yellow hall was a bulletin board of students’ pictures titled, “Fun and Play the Learning Way.”

The first day of school for all Head Start students is Monday, Aug. 6. A special parents’ orientation day is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m.
